Fourteen volunteers donned gloves and picked up their garden shovels to plant a rose garden at City Hall Aug. 15.
“The timing was perfect,” said Dawn Sanders, volunteer coordinator for the city of Sammamish. “We’ve always wanted to do the rose garden.”
Sanders said another 14 volunteers from Symetra worked at Zaccuse Creek, pulling out non-native invasive plants such as morning glory and blackberry bushes.
Both projects had been on Sanders’ to-do list for volunteer projects, but she hadn’t found the time or the bodies to execute them.
Symetra, a Bellevue-based financial company, sent out about 130 employees on volunteer projects throughout the Puget Sound region Aug. 24-28. Four crews helped out in Sammamish.
